Mark Turner, Florida Chi, Class of 1983.
Mark Turner is the Chairman of the Florida Chi Chapter Advisory Board, and the Florida Chi Alumni Association for Sigma Alpha Epsilon in Tampa Bay, Inc. He graduated from the University of Tampa in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and a minor in Economics.
Mark was a founding father at the Florida Chi Chapter, and served in various capacities through special interest group, colonization & chartering. After graduation, Mark spent five years as an officer for the Tampa Bay Alumni Association of Sigma Alpha Epsilon serving in membership recruitment, event management and as President for two terms.
Mark has been working in the advertising, marketing, and media sales fields throughout his career. Currently, he owns his own media consulting firm, and lives in the Tampa Bay area.
Marty Rifkin, First Eminent Archon of Florida Chi, Class of 1982.
Marty Rifkin is the Vice Chairman of the Florida Chi Chapter Advisory Board, and the Florida Chi Alumni Association of Sigma Alpha Epsilon in Tampa Bay, Inc. Marty lived in Florida for several years prior to attending the University of Tampa. He graduated from the University of Tampa in 1982 with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Marty is the founding father at the Florida Chi Chapter and championed its growth from special interest group, colonization and finally to charter in 1981.
Marty has had a diverse business career. He is most notable for being the founder and CEO of Avid Health, the national leader in gummy vitamins, which owns such brands as L’il Critters Gummy Vites and Vitafusion. He currently is a Senior Managing Director with Coremix Capital and founder of the KMR Group Foundation in Vancouver, Washington.
John attended the University of Tampa from 1983 – 1985. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from St. Leo’s University and an Associate of Science degree in Funeral Service from Gupton-Jones College in Atlanta.
John was active in the Florida Chi Chapter at UT serving as Enrichment Chairman in 1984-85. John followed in his father’s footsteps, and is the President & CEO of Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes, Tampa Bay’s largest family owned and operated funeral home. John has served on various international professional boards/associations, as well as local civic and social organizations.
John is married to Nicole, “Nikki,” and they have 2 children. In his spare time, he enjoys boating, water skiing and riding his Harley.
Michael Southard, Florida Chi, Class of 1982.
Michael Southard graduated from the University of Tampa in 1982 with a B.S. degree in Business Management and Accounting. Mike was one of the founding fathers of Florida Chi and served as the first Eminent Treasurer.
After graduation, Michael worked in the financial services industry for 8 years. He also owned Gorman Plastics; an Ohio based plastics manufacturer that catered to the automotive and toy industry. Since 1995, he has worked for the family business, Kichler Lighting, as the National Sales Manager.
Michael currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the University of Tampa. Mike and his wife, Amy, have been married for 27 years, with two daughters, Ashley and Kasey.
Howie Williams, Florida Chi, Class of 1985.
Howie Williams graduated from the University of Tampa in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Howie was initiated into the Florida Chi Chapter in the fall of 1982. In his years as a brother, Howie was an active brother, serving in various capacities including Rush Chairman, Social Director, Eminent Herald, & Chaplain.
Howie has enjoyed a 30-year career in food and beverage sales management having worked at Lykes Brothers and Tyson Foods. For the past 14 years, Howie is serving as the Sales Manager for the Southeast and Central Zone of the Foodservice Division for Ocean Spray Cranberries.
Howie and his wife of 20 years, Sue, live in suburban Tampa.
David Whitaker, Florida Chi, Class of 1987.
David “Whitman” Whitaker attended the University of Tampa from 1983-1987 & graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Dave was active in the Florida Chi Chapter at UT and served as the Treasurer from 1986-1987.
After graduation, Dave received a commission in the United States Army as a Transportation Officer. Dave served a decorated 25-year career in the U.S. Army that included a combat tour in Iraq as a Battalion Commander. Currently, Dave is a Defense Contractor in Huntsville, Alabama. One career highlight for Dave was returning to campus as guest speaker at UT’s 2011 ROTC Annual Ball.
David is married to his high school sweetheart, Karen, for the past 28 years. They have an 8-year-old son, Brandon, aka “BMW.”

These brothers act as the governing body for the Florida Chi Alumni Association of Sigma Alpha Epsilon in Tampa Bay, Inc. Each are charged with oversight responsibilities in the management of this association. Bottom line, these men and women make sure all goals and objectives of the alumni association are being met.
