At the 3rd Annual Alumni Awards Dinner on May 3, 2024, brother Mike Southard ('82) received the highest award that any UTampa alumni can receive. Brother Southard received the coveted "Esse Quam Videri" Award, which is a Latin phrase that means "To be, rather than to seem."
This award is given by the UTampa Alumni Association Board yearly to two UTampa alumni that spent years serving the UTampa community with a variety of philanthropic work. Brother Southard has served on the UTampa Board of Trustees for over 13 years. Mike's love for his alma mater has been recognized through college fairs in his hometown, funding scholarships, and helping construction projects. In 2019, the Riverside Building was renamed the "Southard Family Building" after extensive renovation.
Brother Mike Southard is one of the Founding Fathers of the Florida Chi chapter at UTampa. Mike served as our first Eminent Treasurer, and was a key element in developing the Florida Chi Alumni Association. To this day, Brother Southard continues his enthusiastic support for the return of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon undergraduate chapter at UTampa.
Mike Southard is the founder and CEO of Elvisridge Capital, an investment firm in Cleveland. Southard's background includes more than a decade in corporate finance at GE Capital, co-ownership of a small blow-molding business, and dedication of 22 plus years in the development of a contractor driven consumer products company in the landscape lighting sector.
